2023 DC WAVE RECAP

Demographic Highlights:

Gender Diversity: A diverse representation of genders was observed among participants, with 21.20% male, 75.12% female, and smaller percentages identifying as non-binary, transgender, or other.

 

Racial Diversity: The event drew participants from various racial backgrounds, including Black, White, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American/Alaska Native, Multicultural/Biracial, and Other, with Black participants comprising the largest percentage at 29.73%.

 

Services Offered:

Health and Wellness: Health and wellness screenings, including dental services, were provided to 26.43% of attendees, highlighting the importance placed on promoting well-being.

 

Community Support: Services such as linkage to housing, employment assistance, and application assistance for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) were offered to address essential community needs.

 

Family Support: Diaper distribution was a significant component of the event, with 42.34% of attendees benefitting, ensuring support for families with young children.

 

Key Achievements:

Bookbag Distribution: A total of 1,268 bookbags were distributed, supporting students in their educational endeavors and easing the burden on families.

 

Volunteer Engagement: With the support of 77 dedicated staff and volunteers, the event ran smoothly and effectively met the needs of participants and the community.

 

Meal Distribution: 625 free meals were distributed, ensuring that attendees had access to nutritious food and alleviating food insecurity in the community.
